All work is worthwhile, isn’t it? The answer of course is yes, even if the job doesn’t pay well and the work isn’t exactly what you want to do. This is especially true when the economy is as bad as it is today. Any job is better than no job considering how difficult it is to even get an interview let alone an offer. It used to be that employers had a hard time filling some positions but that really isn’t the case today. There are some industries, like the medical industry, that need employees but these jobs usually need a particular skill level and education that takes time to get. So what about temporary jobs, temp jobs, is that something that you have thought about doing.
You probably have thought about temp work and decided against it for a number of reasons.
- Little or no benefits
- No job security
- Walking into a job where you don’t exactly know what you are going to do
- You can be let go of a job without any explanation
- No raises
The premise of temporary jobs is that you will only work in this position for a short while although I have seen temp workers stay on an assignment for years before eventually becoming a full time employee. Not every temp job leads to full time employment and that is understandable because a lot of employers have a need for someone to do work on a task that wouldn’t take forever, this gives them the flexibility to add workers without putting them on the payroll.
Temp work can be a lifesaver especially if your unemployment runs out and you need the money quickly. There are other positives to temp work like the experience you get by working for other companies. You may also meet folks that you can use as a reference or they may be someone to add to your personal network.
