While you were growing up I am sure that there was someone that you looked up too and wanted to be like. Maybe it was a teacher, or a friend of the family, or it could have been someone that you had seen on TV who had a successful and prosperous life. You wondered how did they get to be so successful, was it education or was it their personality, it had to be something. If you were fortunate enough to be able to talk to them and find out how they got to where they were in life then you could use this to be successful yourself. Well having a role model is important when you are younger but it also can be beneficial when you are unemployed.
Research and learn about your role model
Who can be your job role model, anyone from someone you used to work with to a relative and even folks that you haven’t met yet. If it is someone that you know give them a call and ask if you can spend a little time talking about their career path and how they got to be where they are at. Hopefully they will also give you advice on your own career search. Of course if you don’t know anyone that fits that bill, you might want to set up an information interview at a company and speak to someone who works in a career that you would like to enter. Since you aren’t interviewing for a job most folks would gladly take some time out to help others with career advice especially in this economy.
