Information about the Senior Service America organization

The site that I am going to review this week is Senior Services America http://www.seniorserviceamerica.org/ located in Silver Spring, Maryland. It is a non-profit organization that helps people over 55 to find jobs while promoting civic duties. It is one of the sponsors of the Senior Community Service Employment Program, an employment program that started 40 years ago. There are restrictions on who may benefit from this program.

• have to over 55 years old
• legally able to work in the U.S.
• living in a household with income no more than 125 percent of the federal poverty level.

Special attention is given to

• Older than 65 years
• have a disability
• low literacy rate
• live in a rural area
• homeless
• low prospects of finding a job
• veteran

Those who are chosen are given minimum wage jobs where they will work in non-profit or community organizations. This will give them job skills and experience while earning money. Ultimately giving them confidence and experience that will help them in later job searches. Plus it will help out the communities that they serve in.
